On September 16, BeingBeyond, a developer of general-purpose embodied foundation models, held the D1 product launch and channel partner conference in Beijing, officially unveiling BeingBeyond D1, an embodied AI teaching solution designed for universities and vocational colleges.

Education-sector channel partners from across China attended the event, joining BeingBeyond in bringing the solution to market. D1 has already been adopted by leading Chinese universities and research institutions, including Peking University, Wuhan University, Soochow University, the Institute of Computing Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Beijing Information Science and Technology University. It has also been deployed overseas at multiple universities in the United States, Thailand, and other markets.

Integrated Hardware and Software, Ready Out of the Box

D1 is a desktop-level embodied AI teaching and application development platform that integrates a robotic arm, dexterous hand, and active vision system into a single unit. The system combines a 6-DoF robotic arm, an 11-DoF dexterous hand (6 active + 5 passive), and a 2-DoF active vision head, providing a total of 19 degrees of freedom.

Compact and lightweight, D1 brings industrial-grade 19-DoF dexterous manipulation capability to a single desktop. Institutions can deploy D1 at scale in standard classrooms and training labs.

D1 also provides a full-stack toolchain covering the core technologies required for embodied AI teaching and application development: compatibility with mainstream simulation platforms such as Isaac Gym, Isaac Sim, MuJoCo, and PyBullet; multiple teleoperation methods, including exoskeleton, keyboard, and VR control; a unified Python API; Ubuntu compatibility; and support for open-source pretrained models including Being-H, ACT, and π. From teleoperation and data collection to real-robot validation, students can experience the complete embodied AI development workflow.

To address diverse teaching needs, D1 is offered in three configurations: D1 (robot platform + teaching materials), D1 Plus (adds an isomorphic teleoperation exoskeleton), and D1 Ultra (further integrates computing kit to support on-device deployment). BeingBeyond also offers BeingFlow-D1, an optional model training and deployment tool built on its proprietary BeingFlow platform.

Creating a Complete Embodied AI Teaching Loop

Many institutions lack dedicated courses and teaching tools for embodied AI application development, while existing solutions often involve difficult hardware integration, high barriers to hands-on experimentation, and fragmented teaching workflows.

In July 2026, China's Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security announced 'Embodied Intelligence Robot Application Technician' as a new occupation. Teachers and students need a low-barrier, integrated hardware-and-software platform that enables them to complete the full embodied AI practice workflow efficiently while systematically developing the theoretical knowledge and application-development skills required by the field.

As a leading developer of general-purpose embodied foundation models, BeingBeyond has accumulated extensive first-hand experience in data collection and propessing, model training and deployment, and hardware-software co-design. The company previously introduced an early version of D1 for researchers and developers, validating the feasibility of an integrated 'head-arm-hand' platform for embodied AI research and development.

The newly released D1 builds on that early version with systematic upgrades based on real user feedback and the requirements of teaching scenarios. With a renewed focus on the education market, D1 centers on a progressive curriculum aligned with industry roles, evolving from a standalone product into a systematic solution. It is therefore better suited to teaching, hands-on training, competitions, and research.

D1 delivers more than hardware. It also includes teaching materials and a curriculum system, reducing the burden on institutions of building courses from scratch. The curriculum targets key competencies in embodied data engineering, system commissioning and operations, embodied application development, and model training and deployment. It establishes a progressive skills pathway from L1 Foundational Learning to L5 Innovation Practice, supported by lab manuals, presentation materials, as well as faculty training and joint curriculum-development support.

For BeingBeyond, a company focused on general-purpose embodied foundation models, D1 represents an extension of its technology into the education market. With model R&D at its core, BeingBeyond translates its experience in data processing and hardware-software co-development into teaching platforms and curriculum resources, helping institutions cultivate embodied AI application developers whose skills are more closely aligned with industry needs. A single D1 platform supports six application scenarios: course delivery, lab and skills training, faculty development, competition practice, research innovation, and community or industry service. It can support teaching, hands-on practice, assessment, and continuous upgrading within one system.

BeingBeyond will work closely with education-sector channel partners and leverage their localized service networks to bring the D1 solution more efficiently to universities and vocational colleges across China. Together, they will provide institutions with end-to-end support covering solution consulting, deployment and implementation, faculty training, and continuous upgrades.

Li Zhang, Co-founder and COO of BeingBeyond, said at the launch: "As a company focused on general-purpose embodied foundation models, BeingBeyond will continue turning cutting-edge technical practice into accessible teaching capabilities. Together with institutions and partners, we aim to cultivate multidisciplinary talent for the next generation of the embodied AI industry."
